Have Fun in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!

Hugging the coast of Lake Michigan, born of three rivaling towns straddling three converging rivers and peopled by a great wave of German immigrants, Milwaukee is a city full of surprises. Pop into the Harley-Davidson Museum, take in a show at the Pabst Theater, or hey, do both! With Milwaukee’s surprising size and numerous attractions, it’s well worth a good long look around.

Beer, But Not Only Beer

You may already know about Milwaukee’s deep historic ties to the beer industry. Today, Miller Brewing Company still operates the oldest major American brewery out of Milwaukee. In addition to this heavy hitter, many microbreweries and nanobreweries are on the rise in the Milwaukee area. So, while you’re there, visit a few beer halls and beer gardens (including two traveling beer gardens). Explore a brewery or five. You won’t regret it.

And if you find yourself thirsty for some variety, you have your choice of pubs, clubs, competitive bars with ping-pong and mini-bowling, tikis and joints that feel like speakeasies, and even a password-protected spy bar. Milwaukee has you covered no matter your drink of choice.

Unexpected Adventure

Ever wanted to kayak, canoe, or paddleboard through the center of a major city? Well, now is the time to try! Take in the sights along the Milwaukee river and get a whole new perspective on the city. Or, if you’d rather peddle than paddle, take a cruise along Oak leaf trail. No need to bring your own wheels either, as rental bikes can be found in several trail-adjacent locations.

Does your vacation have you feeling like a kid again? Take that energy to Milwaukee County Zoo where a walk-through open aviary will leave you amazed at the majesty of nature. Thunderstorm has you looking for cover? With plenty of indoor adventures to be had, rainy weather is no reason to stress. Why not take a tour of the Mitchell Park Domes three enclosed botanical gardens, where they bring the nature inside for your viewing convenience? Or go for a stroll through the Milwaukee Art Museum, where the building you explore is a work of art in and of itself and will have you forgetting the weather entirely.

Whatever your choice, you’re in for a good time.

Unexpected Adventure

While you’re in the neighborhood, why not try a music festival or two? A good one to start with is Summerfest. If you haven’t heard of it, Summerfest is touted as the world’s largest music festival and it takes place right in Milwaukee. The festival brings in 800 bands and 900 thousand fans and if you’re looking for some epic entertainment, it qualifies in spades.

Or, if you’re looking for something a bit more mellow, just follow the beat to one of the many jazz festivals that take place here throughout the year.

Of course, if you’re in the mood for a little polka, Milwaukee’s strong German heritage goes a long way to making its Oktoberfest festival something truly special to be part of.

Milwaukee is much more than a stop on your trip. It’s a vacation destination in its own right. So be sure to schedule some serious time for exploration. There’s a lot to take in.
