Located in the Straits of Mackinac, and known as the “Gateway” to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, St. Ignace has more than 300 years of history. It became an official part of the United States after the Revolutionary War. With its constant inhabited status, it makes St. Ignace third in the United States to carry this postion. St. Ignace offers a wide variety of activities from boating to golf to shopping to history to Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island.
One of the attractions in St. Ignace is the Wawatam Lighthouse, as shown in the photo above. The Wawatam Lighthouse stands at the harbor of St Ignace in the Straights of Mackinac. This modern, automated lighthouse is designated as an historical landmark in Mackinac County.
